John Allan "Big Pete" Shields (May 10, 1907 - September 24, 1975) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played 11 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Quakers, New York Americans, Montreal Maroons and Boston Bruins.

Playing careerEdit

Shields started out playing with the senior Ottawa Montagnards and was signed as a free agent with the Ottawa Senators in 1928.

He spent time with various NHL teams thorugh the 1937-38 season, always as a regular. He then played in the minor pros for several seasons, notably as a player-coach for the Washington Lions in 1941-42.

Shields then spent two seasons with the senior Arnprior RCAF team and retired in 1944.

During the 1934–35 NHL season Shields won the Stanley Cup Championship with the Montreal Maroons.
