Alana Susan McElhinney (born November 30, 1990) is an ice hockey player for the Bemidji State Beavers.

Playing careerEdit

McElhinney competed for the Calgary Bruins of the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League and played in the league for three years. She played for the Southern Alberta 1990 AAA Selects team which won the silver medal at the 2005 Lady Flames Summer Splash Tournament in Boston. In the summer of 2006, she played in the Czech Challenge Cup in Prague.

Hockey CanadaEdit

In 2007, she played for Team Alberta at the Under 18 Nationals. In the same year, McElhinney was a member of the 2007 Hokkeido-Alberta Sport Exchange, traveling to Japan. In 2008, Unser travelled to Finland to compete in the International Development Hockey Camp[1]


  • January 5, 2011: In a 3-2 overtime loss to the #1 ranked Wisconsin Badgers, McElhinney made 43 saves on the night including 24 in the second period.[2]
  • After her senior season, she was a member of the four-year class with the most wins in Beaver history: (with fellow seniors Kimberly Lieder, Zuzana Tomcikova, Montana Vichorek, Marlee Wheelhouse and Lauren Williams).[3]

She is the younger sister of Calgary Flames goalie Curtis McElhinney. [5] Her other brother, Spencer, competed for Okotoks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Her father, Bob, competed for the University of Guelph.
