The Adelaide Avalanche were a professional ice hockey team based in Thebarton, South Australia that played in the Australian Ice Hockey League. The team was founded in 2000 and folded in 2008, half-way into the 2008 AIHL season. The players were transfered to a new club, the Adelaide A's, created in order to allow the players to finish the season.

Achievements[]

  • AIHL champions (1): 2000
  • Minor Premiership Cup/V.I.P. Cup winners (6): 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007

History[]

The Avalanche was among the founding members of the AIHL in 2000. The team won the first league title of its history. They finished first in the league once again the next three seasons and failed to win a first Goodall Cup in 2002, losing to the Sydney Bears in the finals. It was on that year that the Cup became the prize trophy of the league.

The club, after several lower standings, returned to top of the AIHL in 2005, as the Brisbane Blue Tongues and the Central Coast Rhinos entered the league. They repeated the fate in 2007, but once again, failed to win the prized Goodall Cup.

The Avalanche were forced to fold in 2008, half-way into the season. The players were transfered to the Avalanche A's, a team created in emergency to allow the players to finish the season. The A's returned to the AIHL in 2009, under a new name, the Adelaide Adrenaline.
