The 2017 McKenzie Cup is the Pacific region qualifier for the 2017 Allan Cup. The tournament will match up the provincial champions of British Columbia (Savage Cup) and Alberta in a series to be held at the Allberta champion's home rink. The series winner will advance to the Allan Cup as the Pacific region representative
The 2017 edition will not be held as the 2017 Coy Cup (British Columbia Senior AA championship) was changed to the same weekend as the McKenzie Cup and players on both teams registered as Senior AAA in British Columbia had already commited to play for Senior AA teams and thus decided against competing for the McKenzie Cup.
As a result of the BC teams withdrawing, the playoff champion of the 2016-17 Chinook Hockey League Season will advance to the 2017 Allan Cup.
- There are two registered Senior AAA teams (Powell River Regals and West Coast Heat) in the province. Both teams are playing independent exhibition schedules for the season. They were scheduled to meet in a series for the Savage Cup and a spot in the McKenzie Cup. However, this was cancelled as both teams did not have enough players available for further qualifying for the Allan Cup
- The only four registered Senior AAA teams (Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs, Innisfail Eagles, Lacombe Generals and Stony Plain Eagles) in the province are all members of the Chinook Hockey League. The league has a fifth member (the Rosetown Red Wings) that are based out of Saskatchewan and will not participate in the league playoffs. The league playoff champion will be the Alberta Senior Champion and were to advance to McKenzie Cup, but the withdrawal of the two BC teams from competition negates the need for the regional qualifying tournament.
