This is the 2016-17 Lakehead Junior Hockey League season. This is the league's first season under this name and 24th season overall. The league was previously known as the Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League prior to this season.
Membership changes
- The Smooth Rock Falls Thunder who withderew just prior to the start of the 2015-16 regular season don't return
- The Thunder Bay Wildcats who withdrew on November 4, 2015 don't return

Playoffs
Format
The Thunder Bay AAA Kings are not involved in the playoffs as they are a lower level team. The four remaining teams qualify for the playoffs. The playoff champion advances to the 2017 Keystone Cup.
