This is the 2016-17 ECAC West Women's hockey season. This will probably to be the last season for the league under this name as the formation of the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (men's and women's) in early October 2016 and subsequently the Middle Atlantic Conferences (men's and women's) mid-October announcement of the formation of a hockey conference for the 2017-18 season reduced league membership to five teams. All of these teams are all sport members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
- The announcement of the formation of the United Collegiate Hockey Conference was announced as being created for the 2017-18 season was made in early October 2016. This announcement had half of the present ECAC West Women's Conference membership (Chatham Cougars, Elmira Soaring Eagles, Neumann Knights, Utica Pioneers and William Smith Herons (and their sibling school Hobart Statesmen)) joining this new conference. The new conference also added the Manhattanville Valiants, Stevenson Mustangs and the returning program of the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen. The new programs of the King's College Kings, Nazareth Golden Flyers (men's only) and Wilkes University Colonels will also be joining the new conference.
- The formation of the UCHC conference leave the State University of New York Athletic Conference members (Buffalo State Bengals, Cortland Red Dragons, Oswego Great Lakers, Plattsburgh Cardinals, Potsdam Bears as the only remaining members of the conference.
