This is the 2016-17 Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League season.  This is the league's first season.

The league was announced as starting play for the 2016-17 playing season under the sanction of the Amateur Athletic Union's United Hockey Union which was announced on June 6, 2016.

The league announced plans for a showcase event to be held December 13-15, 2016 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  The

On September 16, 2016 the CPJHL issued a press release stating that the Akwesasne Chiefs and Coldwater Falcons operations were ceased by the league. The reason cited was that neither team had not recruited weel enough to put a competitive team on the ice that would not jeopardize the quality of play or the safety of the players.

The operations of the Burk's Falls Bruins was suspended by the league in late September 2016

Format to be announced

The playoff champion will advance to a single game event to be called the NCPHL-CPJHL-AAU Junior Hockey Challenge Cup which is scheduled to be held March 25, 2017.
