The 2009-10 season was Barys Astana's tenth season in history. The team finished 14th out of 24 in the league and qualified for the playoffs for a second consecutive Kontinental Hockey League season. They were swept in three games by Ak Bars Kazan in three games in the first round of the playoffs.
