The 2005 Northeast Regional of the NCAA Tournament took place March 26 and 27, 2005, at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

The participants were:

Denver was the WCHA champion, and Bemidji State was the College Hockey America champion. New Hampshire and Harvard advanced to the NCAA Tournament by way of at-large bids.

Final Edit

On March 27, the semifinal winners, Denver and New Hampshire, met in the Northeast final. In the second period, New Hampshire sophomore forward Daniel Winnik, who had scored the overtime winner over Harvard the previous night, scored the first NCAA Tournament penalty shot goal since 1999, putting the Wildcats up 2-1. With just under two minutes to play in the second period, Denver forward Gabe Gauthier would score his second goal of the game to knot the score at two. Luke Fulghum scored the game winner for the Pioneers with just under four minutes to play, and Gauthier's empty net goal would give him a hat trick for the night and seal the Pioneers' second straight Frozen Four appearance.
