The 2005 Mid-West Islanders were the 2004 Allan Cup runners-up. As the champions of Canadian Senior hockey St-Georges Garaga elected not to compete, the Islanders were given the chance to wear the Team Canada jersey and tour Japan by playing in the Nagano Cup. They finished in 3rd place.
