The top two teams from the group proceeded to the Final Round, while the remaining teams played in the Consolation Round. In the placing rounds, the first place teams played each other for the Final, the 2nd places for the Match for third place etc.
The winning team in the tournament was promoted to the 2001 World Championship, while the bottom two teams would be relegated to the 2003 Group B Qualification tournament.
