The 1978–79 Montreal Canadiens season was the club's 70th season. The Canadiens won the Stanley Cup for the fourth consecutive time, the fifteenth time in the past twenty-four seasons, and their twenty-second overall.

With this Cup win, the Canadiens ended an amazing streak. They won the Stanley Cup 18 times in the last 36 seasons since their win in 1943-44.
