This is the 1976-77 Central Collegiate Hockey Association season.  This was the league's sixth season

For the first time in the conference's history a team earned a birth in the NCAA tournament as the tournament was expanded by one team.

Membership changeEdit

The newly established Northern Michigan Wildcats joined the league as a probationary member.  The team's games did not count in the league standings. They would join the league as a full member for the 1977-78 season.
