Note on Waterloo-Owen Sound Semi Final[]

In the fifth game Waterloo's goalie, Ken Payne, was sent off with a game misconduct in the third period. The rules said that he could not be replaced by the substitute goalie. Instead he was replaced by forward Art Deyell.

With 5:43 left in the third, Deyell faked an injury so that he could legitimately be replaced by Bob Gagne, the subsitute goalie. Waterloo went on to win the game 8-7 and the series 3 wins to 2.

After an Owen Sound protest and subsequent investigation the Ontario Hockey Association ordered a replay of the last 5:43 of the fifth game. This was played just before the third game of the league final which Kitchener was leading 2 wins to none. Had Owen Sound won then Kitchener's two wins would have been nullified and the final changed to best of five from best of seven.

As it was, Waterloo won the game 9-7 and the game was played right afterward between Kitchener and Waterloo.
