After defeating the Fort William Canadiens of the Thunder Bay Junior Hockey League in the Western Memorial Cup Quarter-Finals, Wheat Kings were allowed three pick-ups from the MJHL. Brandon selected forwards Bill Cooper from the Winnipeg Braves, Jim Irving, and defenseman Terry Ball both from the Winnipeg Rangers.

Lineup Notes
Dressed one less than the allowed 16 in all six Semi-Final games, Hextall was in and out of the lineup with an injury, replaced by Fairbairn. Hayes was suspended for 2 games after a stick fight in game 4. Collins filled in.
In the Semi-Final, Goyette missed game 1 with an injury, replaced by Fairbairn. Prior to game 2, Garinger and Lehner were suspended by the team for breaking curfew. Both were finished. Goyette and the benched Huston returned for game 2, Goyette replaced Garinger, Huston 10th forward, and Fairbairn took Lehner spot. Ball missed games 3 and 5 with an injury. Huston replaced Goyette on the first unit for games 4 and 5.
