HC Villars. the champion of the Nationalliga B, beat EHC Basle to earn a promotion to the Nationalliga A for 1962-63, Soon after, the league decided to expand to 10 teams so that EHC Basle and EHC Kloten, the Nationalliga B runner-up, were also allowed into the A league.
