The Tropical Hockey League was the first attempt at establishing professional hockey in the southeastern part of the United States.

The league folded after its one and only season, 1938-39. That one season ran from December 10 to April 2.

The Coral Gables Seminoles, Havana Tropicals, Miami Clippers and Miami Beach Pirates were the four teams that made up the league. All teams were based out of the Metropolitan Ice Palace in Miami, Florida, even though one team was representing Havana, Cuba. Coral Gables finished first during the 15 game regular season and won the playoff championship.

Bob Dill and Joe Simpson were the only Tropical League players that also spent time in the NHL.
