The series between the Ottawa Gunners and the Quebec champions was supposed to start on Monday, March 15, in Ottawa and then move back to Montreal for the second game of the two-game total-goals series.

However, the Quebec final was tied up in the game on March 13, forcing a third game between the Quebec Sons of Ireland and Montreal St Francois Xavier on March 15. The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, bound by tight deadlines, then said that the Gunners and the Quebec champions would meet in a sudden-death game in Ottawa. There was no time for the second game.

The Quebec Amateur Hockey Association refused to accept this and forfeited the series.

This ad appeared in the Ottawa paper on March 13. It was assumed that the senior Sons of Ireland would beat the intermediate St Francois Xavier team in the 1925-26 Quebec Senior Playoffs, which did not happen.
